Physical Therapy
Orthopedic Rehabilitation: The branch of medical science that deals with the prevention or correction of disorders involving locomotor structures of the body, especially the skeleton, joints, muscles, fascia, and other supporting structures such as ligaments and cartilage. Orthopedic physical therapists throughout the Rehab 3 Network specialize in the treatment of post-operative joints, acute sports injuries, arthritis, and amputations just to name a few. Treatment and education help injured individuals attain maximum function, a sense of well-being, and a personally satisfying level of independence.
Post-Surgical Orthopedic Rehab: The post-surgical patients benefit greatly through rehabilitation efforts. Our therapists along with local orthopedic surgeons develop, maintain, and update post-surgical protocols regularly.
Transitional Gym Program: Rehab 3 offers a transitional gym program for patients who have completed a course of physical therapy and would like to further strengthen and condition independently with our exercise equipment. A physical therapist or athletic trainer is always nearby to answer questions and help the patient in any appropriate way.
Spine Care and Education: Treatment of the spine is roughly 30% of all orthopedic patient care. That is why each Rehab 3 site has a team of therapists dedicated to treating spinal disorders. These teams work to provide optimal care and rehabilitation for patients suffering from spine injuries.
Manual Therapy: The hands-on aspect of rehabilitation. Therapists utilize a wide array of manual techniques for the reduction of edema, relaxation of muscles, mobilization of joints and soft tissue. Rehab 3 therapists are trained in a variety of manual therapy techniques.
Neurological Rehabilitation: A discipline focused on rehabilitating individuals who have suffered from a neurological condition such as Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, and stroke. Common symptoms include paralysis, vision impairment, poor balance, inability to ambulate, and loss of functional independence. Treatment is designed to improve these areas of dysfunction and move the patient toward functional independence.
Women’s Health Programs:
Chronic Pelvic Pain: Our women’s health services physical therapists have received advanced training in pelvic anatomy and function and have an understanding of the conditions that can lead to pelvic pain. Extensive knowledge of the pelvis and pelvic floor muscles, combined with a physical therapist’s evaluative skills, allows our therapists to play a valuable role in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain.
Incontinence: is a common problem that affects up to half of women and a small percentage of men in their lives. Rehab 3 has highly skilled therapists that utilize a variety of treatment options, including pelvic floor musculature strengthening, behavioral training, and the use of biofeedback to benefit this population. Treatment usually consists of about 6 treatment visits.
Fibromyalgia: is treated through a special, individualized program designed to assist the patient in regaining control over their lives. The Fibromyalgia Program stresses education and combines body mechanics, postural education, gentle stretching, aerobic exercise, and strengthening. Pacing, ergonomics, sleep hygiene, and mind-body techniques are also included in our program as a way of controlling symptoms.
Lymphedema: Our program can significantly improve lymphedema symptoms with Complete Decongestive Therapy. Decongestive Therapy combines manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging, skin care, exercise, education, preventative precautions, self management methods, and custom fitted support garments. Treatments are designed to reduce swollen limbs and improve quality of life.
Osteoporosis: The program at Rehab 3 includes thorough evaluation, exercises designed to reverse poor postural patterns, instruction on activities of daily living, body mechanics and positioning, and modalities to treat symptoms of this debilitating disease.
Pregnancy Related Disorders: such as Sacroiliac Dysfunction, incontinence, low back pain, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are treated in physical and occupational therapy.
Men’s Health Program: Incontinence affects a small number of men during the course of their lives. Rehab 3 at Frisbie’s South Main Street Campus offers treatment for male incontinence treated by a male physical therapist.
Vestibular and Balance Program: People that may benefit from balance and vestibular treatment include those recovering from stroke, orthopedic and sports-related injuries, joint replacements, vertigo, and certain neurological problems. Rehab 3 clinicians utilize the latest technology to test mobility and balance skills. Integral to our program is the Balance Master, a treatment and assessment system that uses interactive computer technology to guide and prompt patients throughout evaluation and treatment.
Wound/Burn Care: Rehab 3 offers wound care for post-surgical wounds, second, and third degree burns, and larger abrasions that cannot be treated safely and effectively at home. Also, venous stasis and diabetic ulcers, arterial insufficiency, and decubitus ulcers are treated effectively at Network sites. Treatment techniques include Anodyne therapy, pulse lavage or sterile whirlpool for lower leg and upper extremity followed by debridement and dressing changes.
Orthotic Casting: Many patients require the use of foot orthotics to improve biomechanical movement and / or stability around the joints of the foot and ankle. Rehab 3 has physical therapists trained in biomechanical evaluation of the foot and ankle who can cast patients for orthotics. The mold casting is then outsourced for fabrication.
